Two all-new additions join the 2025 Ram 1500 lineup: the Ram 1500 Ramcharger and the Ram 1500 REV. While both trucks signal Ram's dive into the world of electrification, they do so for different audiences, with different powertrains and various capabilities.
Ram 1500 Ramcharger
The Ramcharger is a PHEV (Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle), pairing a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 with a 92-kWh battery pack. In this configuration, the gas engine would be used solely as a generator for recharging the battery, never mechanically connected to the wheels. In this design, the Ramcharger would be foremost an electric vehicle, assisted by the gasoline engine during long drives.
Performance metrics for the Ramcharger are impressive: 663 horsepower, 615 lb-ft of torque, and acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in about 4.4 seconds. It has an all-electric range of about 145 miles, extending to a combined range of up to 690 miles when utilizing the gasoline generator. Towing capacity is robust, with the ability to tow up to 14,000 pounds and a payload capacity of up to 2,625 pounds.
Ram 1500 REV
The Ram 1500 REV is an electric pickup truck on the STLA Frame platform designed for large electric vehicles. There are dual electric motors to give all-wheel drive. It offers two battery pack options: a standard 168-kWh pack with a targeted range of up to 350 miles and an optional 229-kWh pack targeted to achieve an unsurpassed range up to 500 miles.
The REV makes 654 horsepower and 620 lb-ft of torque, taking it from 0 to 60 mph in about 4.4 seconds. Towing capacity is the same as the Ramcharger at up to 14,000 pounds, while payload capacity is up to 2,700 pounds. Charging is also very advanced, with 800-volt DC fast charging supported at up to 350 kW, enabling the addition of as much as 110 miles of range in just 10 minutes.
Key Differences
The main difference between the two is in the powertrain. The Ramcharger uses a series hybrid system where the gasoline engine serves as a range extender, thus eliminating range anxiety like in pure electric vehicles. This is especially useful for those customers who have to travel long distances without access to charging infrastructure. At the same time, the REV is an all-electric car, targeting those customers who strive for zero-emission driving, with the added advantages of electric propulsion, such as instant torque and lower maintenance.
Other key differences concern dependence on the charging infrastructure: whereas REV requires charging stations to refill the battery, Ramcharger is able to function as long as there is available gasoline feeding the generator (engine) - much more convenient in regions with sparse or no recharging installations at all.
Availability & Conclusion
The Ram 1500 REV was lined up for the first half of 2025. However, with shifting sands in the market and consumer preference, Stellantis has pushed it back to 2026. This accelerated the launch of the Ram 1500 Ramcharger. Consumer orders for the electric pickup are now expected to open in the first half of 2025.
While the 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger will join the 2025 Ram 1500 REV, each plays to vital oars in the comprehensive electrification strategy by the brand: offering customer choices to meet their own unique needs. The Ramcharger will give buyers a hybrid system's extended range and flexibility-fitting for road trips and not necessarily needing to seek any charging infrastructure.
